January Meeting – Pete & Hanna Robbins

Pete and Hanna Robbins will discuss bass fishing opportunities in Mexico, specifically those at Anglers Inn International’s properties at Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos, both near Mazatlan.

About Pete & Hanna

Vienna residents Pete and Hanna Robbins spend most, if not all, of their free time traveling and chasing the next bite. In addition to domestic travel, they’ve fished the Amazon tributaries for peacock bass multiple times and recently returned from a tigerfish expedition to southern Africa.

Pete is a Senior Writer for Bassmaster Magazine and has also written for other publications, including In-Fisherman, Field & Stream, and Gary Yamamoto’s Inside Line. He also consults for a number of fishing tackle companies. Despite those credentials, Hanna often catches bigger fish.

They will join PRSC at the January meeting to discuss bass fishing opportunities to Mexico, specifically those at Anglers Inn International’s properties at Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos, both near Mazatlan. They’ve been there 10 times and consider it one of the most accessible “exotic” fishing trips available. They’ll discuss best times to go, key presentations, and some of the experiences they’ve had chasing big Mexican bass.

Pete has provided on-the-water tournament coverage for every Bassmaster Classic since 2010, and he has been known to bring bad weather with him to venues that have not previously experienced any. He’s blogged for Gary Yamamoto’s Inside Line since 2008, where he explores issues related to fishing, food and popular culture, with a particular interest in the intersection of those three seemingly unrelated topics. He has not yet been featured on “Hoarders,” although his tackle collection is beyond extensive, with a particular focus on rare Japanese hard baits.

Pete calls the Potomac River his home water, but has made multiple trips to the Amazon in search of peacock bass, and tries to make at least one trip per year to Mexico to chase big largemouths and drink margaritas.
He lives in Vienna, Virginia with his wife Hanna and their precocious Australian Shepherd Rooster, who has been known to herd small animals and children.

This ought to be an interesting presentation in the dead of winter.  Maybe Pete will be able to shed some warm Mexican sunshine during his talk.

November Meeting – Member Night

Member Night is PRSC’s annual get together for food and fun, and to thank the membership for making this such a great organization. This meeting is open to current PRSC members.

The main event, as always, is to raffle off contributions made to the club from guides, tackle dealers, rod companies, and PRSC members.

  • When: November 30, 2016 at 6:30 pm (mind the earlier start time)

New members can join PRSC at Member Night and participate in the raffle. In addition to the raffle, the highly coveted awards and prizes are announced for the PRSC fishing contest.

Current members are encouraged to bring a completed membership form to the meeting.

Captain Steve Chaconas will discuss fishing with Mann’s fishing products. Also, he recently was appointed to the Maryland DNR Black Bass Advisory Subcommittee, and he will bring everyone up to speed on the changes in Potomac River regulations.

About Steve

Steve brings 26 years of experience to his bass fishing guide service on the Potomac River. He has been featured locally and nationally in TV, radio, and print. He was the Fox Sunday News Power Player of the Week for two years. He is a recognized expert source on the Potomac River and is featured on WTOP Radio and many DC TV stations.

Captain Steve is also an outdoors writer with columns in BoatUS Angler Magazine, Sportsman’s Magazine, Woods & Waters, and The Old Town Crier, among others. He has written for the Free Lance Star newspaper, The Mount Vernon Gazette, The Mount Vernon Voice, The American Sportsfishing Association, and many others. Steve also hosted the National Bass Fishing Radio Show. In addition, Steve is featured as the BoatUS and monkeysee.com fishing expert. His reports and commentaries appear online at Comcast Sports, BassFan, WFLS, and Bass N Edge, among other Websites. In addition, he has covered fishing events for radio and TV.

A U.S. Coast Guard Captain, licensed by the Potomac River Fisheries Commission and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Steve has been featured in local and national publications: Bassmaster, BASS Times, Bassin’ Magazine, Boat US Magazine, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Los Angeles Times, National Geographic, ESPN, and others. He’s been emcee of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Tournament the past 20 years, a member of Boat U.S. Speakers Bureau and the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, and the American Sportsfishing Association. Steve has been awarded an Excellence in Craft award from SEOPA and was the recipient of the Mount Vernon–Lee Chamber of Commerce 2002 and 2003 Home-Based Business of the Year Award. He has also been awarded the Potomac Conservation Award by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin.

Prior to fishing, Steve’s careers included teaching high school algebra and selling cars, computers, and surgical products. He also hosted the longest running all-financial morning radio show in the country in Washington, D.C. and is considered to be “The Father of Business Radio.”
