Captain Brady Bounds

About Captain Bounds

Captain Bounds is a part time licensed guide with over thirty years experience operating in Chesapeake Bay and tributaries, including Susquehanna Flats, Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and the Potomac River.

Offering kayak ferry and mother-ship trips Captain Brady uses his guide-boat to transport kayaks into areas of Chesapeake Bay and tributaries that kayakers cannot get to easily because of distance, lack of access, or safety concerns. Many of these places have no fishing pressure; you may not see another boat all day, except the guide boat standing off ready to assist if needed.

Under the ferry service he transports kayaks, gear and anglers to a pre-arranged location and drops them off. At a later time the guide boat returns to an arranged pickup point and then transports them back to the final destination. The cost is based upon the total round trip mileage of the guide-boat.

Under the mother-ship service the kayaks, gear and anglers are loaded into the guide-boat and then taken to certain fishing locations where Captain Brady assists the kayaks to launch, load gear, and depart to fish. The guide-boat stays in the immediate vicinity of the kayaks and services them as needed, including reloading them into the guide-boat as needed to move to other areas. The cost of this service is a flat daily rate.

About Bruce Ingram

When not teaching English in the Botetourt County, Virginia, school system, Bruce spends much of his time fishing, hunting, birding, and enjoying the great outdoors. During this meeting he will specifically address the best float trips on the upper James and New Rivers.  He will describe five floats on each river that would be worthwhile for members to come down and fish. Bruce will also be available to answer any questions you may have on those topics or his other achievements as well. We will also have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Bruce’s books outlined below.

Bruce has been an outdoor writer/photographer since 1983. His extensive knowledge is reflected in the many books he has published, including the James River Guide, New River Guide,
Shenandoah and Rappahannock Rivers Guide, and South Branch and Upper Potomac Rivers Guide.
These books cover a wide range of float trips available on these rivers, plus information on access points, rapids, fishing hot spots, and trip planning. Basically, paragraph by paragraph, mile by mile, Bruce takes you on a trip down these rivers, so that when you go on your own trips, you will have a safe, productive fishing experience.

His book, Fly and Spin Fishing for River Smallmouth, covers how to catch smallmouth on fly and spinning rods throughout the year, plus such topics as conservation easements, riparian zone creation/protection, taking kids fishing, canoe camping, birding by canoe, and much more. Bruce and his wife Elaine recently co-wrote a book titled Living the Locavore Lifestyle, about ways to live a sustainable lifestyle by hunting and fishing for food, gathering wild fruits and nuts, and raising a garden, chickens, and fruit trees. It also contains a number of essays on the joys of hunting and fishing. His latest book, Ninth Grade Blues, is a Young Adult fiction novel. It is expected to be out in July 2017.

In addition to his books, Bruce has also placed some 2,300 articles in magazines and some 2,500 photos. He regularly writes for such magazines as Virginia Wildlife, Wildlife in North Carolina, Whitetail Times, Turkey Country, Outdoor America, Quality Whitetails, Game and Fish Publications, and many others.

The Outdoor Writers Association of America has honored Bruce with six writing awards.  Bruce and his
wife Elaine have cooking columns for the Virginia Deer Hunters’ Association and the Quality Deer
Management Association.

About Neal Mason

My Name is Neal Mason founder and President of Fish’N Mason’s Lane (FML). I want to welcome you to my “Lane” of life’s coexistence… fishing! We at FML want to create “Lanes” that incorporate your passion for fishing and the great outdoors with FML’s core mission… sharing my passion for fishing with you!

Growing up on Lake Erie, my Dad would come home from work Friday afternoons and take my brother and I fishing. Dad would call Mom from work, “tell the boys to get ready”; which meant start digging up worms for night fishing! Our stringers were always full of fish to clean for the family fish fries on Saturday nights. Since the age of 3, fishing has been a part of my internal fabric; handed down from Dad and confirmed today each time I’m on the water; generating a burst of laughter after every catch.

Raised in Northern Virginia I’ve always been passionate about fishing; and after nearly 30 years of Government Service, I’ve decided to follow that passion.

I attended a private (FISHER-BEN_Hahn) School for Guides in Colorado. The comprehensive week-long certification course covered all matters related to guiding, as well as operating a successful guide business.

For the past 20 years, I’ve fished these waters; organizing multi-day group excursions for friends and family. Known as one of the best smallmouth bass fisheries in the state of Virginia, a full day float trip routinely yields 20-35 bass! Talk about a fun time; these fish fight like “hell on water.”

“Destinations on the Fly” is the travel entity of Fish’N Mason’s Lane that organizes and host anglers to world class fishing destinations. Fish’N Masons Lane has partnered with Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures booking agency to enable once in a lifetime angling dreams come true. Currently specializing trips to the country of Belize in Central America.
